OUR EUROPE DAY

The CPR. Plurilingüe Santiago Apóstol of Ponteareas is celebrating the Day of Europe on 9th May. Our motto is: “BEING EUROPEAN IS A BIG PRIVILEDGE”

During the week from 6th to 9th May we will hold different activities in English and and all the students in the school will take part in them.

This year 2013 the European Parliament wants to promote the participation of every European citizen, so, the proposed activities vary with the purpose getting to know the history of the European Union, symbols, roles, member states and, according with this year’s motto we work how to take an active role in our citizenship.

The broadcasting of our initiative include some media (newspapers), informing the school community (students, teachers and parents) and using social networks to spread it and get the most people as possible.

Besides, we got in touch with the Europe Direct office from A Coruña to have them informed about our initiative.

We have also created this blog and another one in Spanish with all the activities that will be posted on the school facebook and website.

Please, follow our activities in this prezi.

This is a list of our activities:
  • All the school: Decorating with flags, flyers and posters. The anthem of the European Union will be played at the beginning and at the end of the day.

  • 3-5 year-olds: Colouring flags of the member states, recognizing the symbols of the European Union, singing the European Anthem, working with the values of citizenship, collaboration and caring. All of this will be reflected on a video.

  • Primary Education: We will post some pictures of our students working with sheets with information of the member states: currency, flags, year of joining the Union..., playing the Euro Game, recognizing symbols.

  • Secondary Education:
    1. 1st of ESO will work recognizing flags, symbols, capital cities of the members of the European Union and making a poster. They willl also record a video where they show their school to Europe.
    2. 2nd of ESO will record another video about Ponteareas, their hometown, as a part of an inductive method of showing our belonging to Europe, since the school, from the town, to Europe.
    3. 3rd ESO will work with a sheet with readings about the history of the European Union and will have to answer history and geography questions. Reading comics on-line and watching videos about the European Union and the importance of being European citizen. They will also collaborate with the Euro trivial of 4th ESO.
    4. 4th ESO Preparation of an Euro trivial, with questions about values of the European Union, member states, members of the European Parliament and their roles, rights of being European. Reading comics on-line and watching videos about the European Union and the importance of being European citizen. Making this blog. This will be shown on pictures.

We bet for the implication of all the school community, parents, teachers and pupils in the developing of all the activities, coordinated by the team that participates in the European Parliament’s Euro-scola contest. Celebrating together that we are European, which is a great advantage in these times of crisis and climate of distrust.
